Likes

Karate - Kitaeru-chan's favorite hobby and interest has to do with karate, the art of empty handed fighting. She is dedicated to her studies and has always hoped that it would bring her balance, self-discipline, and self-control. The specific form of karate she studies is known as Matsubayashi Ryu Shorin Ryu or Pine Forest style. It concentrates on the foundations so that one will not be knocked over easily. She wakes up early in the morning and practices her kata.

Duties - Even though there are some times that Kitaeru might shirk these, she is not only the guardian of her planet but she is the spiritual leader. She is big on guarding and forging weapons, yet also even though not letting it govern her life, deep within her is a spirit like no other and she nurtures that.

Fencing - Another one of Kitaeru's favorite bits of training, it is something that allows grace and poise while fighting an enemy. Even after the accident at the forge, she has just become even more determined. She always keeps her cane nearby which is a rapier. She gets upset easily when others shirk their lessons or aren't trying hard enough in her eyes, but that's because she worked so hard to get over her shortcomings that it's hard to see others'.

The Forge - Etna is the kingdom of the forge. All Iopan Senshi weapons come from Etna. From a very young age, Kitaeru was taught how to forge weapons with incredible balance and a sharp edge. She is there to teach the other senshi how to care for their weapons and get the best performance out of them. When Kitaeru first tried to forge a sword from the flames of the forge, something happened, sparks flew up and molten metal spilled all over her right side, onto her face, and into her right eye. She went blind in that eye and was horribly disfigured. It took a lot for her to get out of her shell after this but she also knew, it was what she was born to do and she couldn't escape it. After 20 years of being afraid, she finally gained the courage to start working again, and as part of her coming of age ceremony, forged the beautiful cane rapier. The rapier blade is hidden beneath a dragon's head top made from steel, the shaft also metal, hides the blade. This weapon is her lifeblood, and she is hardly seen without it.

Dislikes:

Court - Being a princess has its ups and downs and even though Kitaeru has realized that her duty is to the throne and to being a senshi, she doesn't much like delegation and politics much. She lives in the moment and takes risks. She is the one to barrel into battle without thinking of the risks to her own life, despite her training in karate. She's intent on protecting others. The only exception to this is as the keeper of the weapons. Her kingdom is the one that forged all of the Iopa Senshi weapons, the Silence Glaive, Sky Sword…they were all forged in Etna.

Being stuck inside - Along with the boredom of court, even if she doesn't have to be in court, she hates being stuck inside. She loves sneaking out with Izumo-kun and quite possibly even just laying in the sun and daydreaming. She'll do anything to break out of the castle and frolic amongst the wild flower, play sports, see the entertainers, or even just walk amongst the commoners. This is why she wears the mask…the court does not know exactly what happened to her that day, but there are rumors floating around about what it is…the commoners know even less than the court does.

Hobbies:

Karate - As stated in the like's section, one of the things that Kitaeru is so passionate about is her martial arts regime. She wakes up early to go outside and practice her kata, in order, from easiest to hardest. Her sensei, Mori Nakamo is Izumo-kun's father, and when Kitaeru was young, that was how she met Izumo and their friendship blossomed. Kitaeru started to study at the age of 250, which seemed young at the time, but Kitaeru insisted. It has helped her to this day, because even though she defies self-discipline and sneaks out of the castle all of the time, she has made a habit of her practices and still practices to perfection. Izumo has also helped her through rough times in her training and often encouraged her to keep practicing.

History - During the many times she was forced to take lessons. She would at least be able to look forward to those on the history of her kingdom, Etna. It is something that she has always loved, studying about the wars and also times of peace. She feels that this will help prepare her best for her role of senshi and to guard her planet. Something so she does not repeat the mistakes of the rulers of their past.

Fencing - Another one of her favorite lessons, which she would never miss, are her fencing lessons. Despite having half of her face disfigured from burns when she had tried to learn to forge for the first time, she enjoys a good blade and a good and fair battle. She forged her own rapier and is proud of it. She also has gotten to the point where she is now teaching others, and helping out with lessons.

Goals

Her utmost highest goal is to live up to her mother's expectations while not being tied down to the tedium of court and her duties. She lives in the moment and not worrying about the future or the past.

Good Points

Hard Working-Because of being crippled, Kitaeru has had to work through a multitude of challenges, including getting over her fear of the forge. Once she sets her mind to something, she will not rest until it is finished. She is also a little bit of a perfectionist as well.

Flaws

Stubborn-As her sun sign, Taurus, would suggest, Kitaeru is stubborn. Sometimes this can be a good thing but most of the time for Kita it is not. She is brash and often times will go rushing into battle. Partially because of her being crippled, she wants to prove herself as a warrior, and partially because she cares for the other senshi and is willing to give up everything to save them.

Crippled-Due to an accident when she first started learning how to forge weapons, Kitaeru spilled hot molten metal all along the side of her body. Thanks to the Etnan's natural resistance to heat, it did not kill her, but it left scars all up and down the right side of her body. This also left her crippled. She still has a little bit of pyrophobia but only when it pretains to fire which is uncontrolled.

Appearance

Hair-Deep raven black, kept in two tight braided pigtails which reach to her knees. Her hair, when the light shines on it also tends to have a little bit of a copper sheen to it. When dressed as a commoner she'll wrap the braids in a crown around her head. Also sometimes done in court but not as often as just wearing the braids. Her hair is wavy and hard to tame, a few wisps always escape taming no matter how many times she should try and gather it.

Face-Deep black, almost purplish eyes, light olive and freckled complexion, Oval in shape. Her eyes are almond shaped. Wears an iron half mask to cover the right side of her face.

Voice- Medium range, not to high but not too low either. If she would sing she would most likely be a Mezzo-Soprano but well….she doesn’t and I don’t think anyone would want her to. Her voice is a bit rough around the edges but

Preferred Hand-Left…she was right-handed but then it got scorched.

Build-5'2" 120 lbs. Athletic build. She's muscular and conditioned but not the strongest girl on the block.

Clothing-She'll usually disguise herself as a common boy, blue cotton or wool pants and brown poet's shirt. Riding boots as well. When in the castle, she wears a deep red-orange dress, with silver bracelets. Never seen without the half mask and also wears a form fitting metal glove on her right hand.

Personality

Usual Moods-If people do not know her, Kitaeru can come around sounding brash and bossy for just because she likes hanging out with the commoners does not mean that she doesn't mistakenly use her station as princess of Etna to her advantage. She only confides in a few select people, those including the other Iopa Senshi. She can also switch to a very competitive tone. Always sure that she can do better than others. At the same time, dutiful and unwavering…stubborn as well.

Character Interaction-Izumo-kun is the one that she gets along with the best. Having known her for so long, and also helping to teach her karate. He is often one who will offer her spiritual guidance. Next come the other Iopa Senshi. She knows that they must work together to save their worlds. She has a respectful relationship with the other senshi, being the one from the kingdom who forged their weapons.

Personal Interaction-She trusts these people more with her true feelings. Her fears of wanting to please her mother and father, and the pressures of being a senshi. She also will vent her desires to free herself from these pressures and to live a free life. Living in the moment and not having to agree with every single philosophy around her because she is told to. Being the princess of the Kingdom of Spirituality can be hard on one's soul especially when you aren't sure what you believe as far as duties and religion. She may be well versed in religion to those who don't know her but to those that do…she's scared.

Way of Life

The Etnans are very hard working individuals and Kitaeru is no different. She had to work hard to overcome her fear of the forge after the accident and she has come a long way. She's still not fully comfortable around uncontrolled fires. She suffers from pyrophobia but only when said fires are not under control. With the forge she has learned to control them so it's not quite as bad…she still gets a little nervous though.

History

Current Situation- She is still within the Castle of Etna, waiting for the day when she can be called upon to perform her duties. She continues her training in karate, fencing, and the forge, preparing for the day when she will be called upon.

Kingdom

Etna is the kingdom of forges. Covered in volcanic landscapes. The castle itself is an iron fortress just riddled with traps that can be sprung on any intruder. Many of the main living chambers for the royal family exist underground. The bedrooms, the servants quarters, the kitchen are all on the middle level. On the ground level is just the large throne room where ceremonies take place and audiences are held. The throne was forged by Kitaeru's ancestors long ago, an ornate golden chair, inlaid with silver detailing.

Transformation Sequence

Kitaeru opens up the locket that was given to her by her mother and says her transformation phrase. The background turns a deep crimson as Kitaeru floats through the air. Orbs of ash rotate around her and form the bodice of her fuku. Four streams of ash condense together as she bends her legs and slowly flips over, and forms her skirt and collar. Ribbons of lava tie together and form both her front and back bows. Spinning around she comes closer to the camera and then further away. She closes her eyes as she stops spinning, facing forward, glitter coming together to form her tiara, gold with orange in the center, and fire shoots up and forms her boots and gloves. She spins around slowly bringing her arms around in a circle and then, in her final pose one hand is at her chest and the other pointing forward.

Introduction Phrase

I am the senshi of the forge, guardian of weapons. Are you ready for things to heat up? You better be, for I am Sailor Hephaestus!

Outfit

Hephaestus' tiara is a golden 'v' with a tiny orange heart in the middle. Her choker, of the same shade of orange has a golden heart, tipping the center. Her earrings are small iron hoops. Her collar is not unlike a sailor's except the absence of lines and is made of chainmail. In the center of her collar is an orange bow, accenting the metal of her collar and adding some brightness to her outfit. Her gloves end before the elbow, made of iron gray and underneath ending at her elbow is an orange spandex type material. The bodice of the fuku is plain white ending just below her breasts, and her skirt, ending at the thigh is chainmail. Her back bow mimics the orange of her front bow and her shoes, are knee high orange boots.

Attacks

Name-Hephaestus Ashenstaff Bash!

Hephaestus brings both arms in a fist above her head. She says her attack phrase and slowly brings her fists apart, forming a staff of pure ash. She spins the staff, almost blurringly, and then her body begins to spin around. She then pauses as she readies her staff, and brings it over her head. Then she brings the staff down upon the enemy and it goes through them leaving a cloud of ash around them. Any enemy that has the reflexes to side step it or even just step backwards far enough for it to miss can dodge the attack. It takes a moderate amount of energy from Hephaestus for her to use this attack and will end up breathing heavily, and a little bit fatigued after using this attack. If hit, the ashen cloud lasts for 5 minutes.

Name-Hephaestus Net Trap Ensnare!

This is a very simple attack, using Heph's chain link net. She closes her eyes as she says the first three words of her attack phrase, the net appears in her hand as she cocks her arms back ready to throw. She then yells out the fourth word and tosses the net. At most this net can only trap up to two enemies, if they don't even dodge. Any speedy type can dodge it. It also doesn't take much of Heph's energy at all to do this attack.

Powers

Weapon Usage - Hephaestus is able to pick up and use any other Iopan Senshi's weapon with no problem whatsoever. Being the guardian of said weapons, and also from the kingdom that forged them has its advantages. There is no penalty to using said weapons as long as they are not being used in conjunction with an attack power…if an attack power is used then she is subject to the power restrictions of said power.

Known Weapons

Cane Rapier-This is a basic rapier, but the catch is that the blade is hidden within Kitaeru's cane. She is rarely ever seen without this cane and most people just think it's because she's crippled, but it is also Kita's lifeblood. The first weapon that she forged with her own hands. She almost babies it. She will not let it out of her reach, James Bond sleeps with his gun underneath his pillow and Kitaeru sleeps with her cane at her side.

Foil-A light fencing sword, the footwork is not unlike the rapier in many ways. The main difference between the foil and the rapier is that a foil is used to poke where as the rapier is a cutting weapon.

Tonfa-The primary weapon of choice when Kitaeru studies karate. They are small clubs, about the length of the forearm, with handles about a third of the way down the shaft.
